Dear Steve,
I admit it has been some time since I was last able to make a payment on my credit card and I have been ditching the calls from the company looking for payment but how can I tell if my credit card has gone to collections. You see I also moved and left my mail behind. Did not change my address.

Dear Worried,
The reality of your situation is that whatever it is, it is. Continuing to hide from the truth does not make things better, only worse from the stress, hiding, fear and strain.
My advice would be to contact the credit card company and ask them if they still have your account or they have placed it for collections or they might have even sold it.
But, unless you are in a position to be able to enter into some payment arrangements, you might not want to be in a rush to contact them just yet.
If your situation has changed for the better and you are able to make some payment arrangements that you can easily keep month after month then call as soon as possible. If the original creditor doesn’t have your account any more, the next best thing would be to get a copy of your consolidated credit report. Chances are pretty good that one of the three credit bureaus on the report will have the current holder of the account listed. From there you can contact the company from the information on the credit report and put a plan in place to put this whole issue behind you.
You can get a copy of your consolidated credit report online here.
