eTelemetry has come out with the Metron, a nifty piece of hardware that plugs into the corporate network to keep tabs on what you do online and send your manager alerts if you are goofing off or chatting to much.

The device provides:

  • Alerts when surfing and chatting exceeds a preset threshold.
  • CEO-level reports on surfing and chatting by individual and department.
  • Tracks bandwidth usage by department for charge-back to department.
  • Capture of all of an individual’s internet traffic for examination by third-party tools.

Soon to be part of history will be checking your Hotmail account at work, launching a little AIM, or downloading a couple of MP3s while at work.

If you spot one of those little gems in the server room I understand that a long handle screwdriver rammed hard through the front may cause it to stop monitoring.
