Back in my medical days we always had drug reps come through. Some were far better than others and those tended to be the companies that we relied on. That was imply based on excellent customer service.
But today, more and more is coming to light about medical doctors (MDs) that are under greater influence from drug company representatives to push and promote named drugs. So much so that now medical students are receiving training on how to best deal with drug company sales people.
My favorite drug rep, Steve Chaconas, left the medical field and went and became a writer for Howard Stern, now how’s that for a pedigree. From operating room to shock jock. I just discovered that he is now a professional bass fisherman. See, a man of many talents. Oh Steve, you do still make me laugh after all these years.
Business Week has an excellent article worth reading if you are interested in this subject. See Building Up Docs’ Marketing Resistance.
