While I’ve always been a positive person at heart, I admit that I can work harder to not let the bastards get me down.

I find life much more enjoyable when I surround myself with positive people. I’m not talking about “Yes people, but people that have a joy and energy for doing positive things with their life. It’s like a magnet that attracts more positive energy and outcomes.

Where Did the Smilers Go?

I’m always amazed at how many people don’t smile when walking down the hall, won’t stop to let someone cross, won’t let that car into the traffic line, etc. If outward signs of unhappiness are an indication of how people feel on the inside, a lot of the world needs a hug. Don’t laugh.

Plenty of Floor Lookers

I used to look at the floor or ground as I approached people walking. I’m sure there is some deep seated reason why but I still remember the exact moment 30 years ago when I was walking across the university campus and someone was approaching me and I went to look at the ground and thought “Screw it. I’m not looking down anymore. Let them avert their gaze if they want to. From that point on I’ve always tried to make eye contact, smile and say hello and I feel better for it.

Worldwide Hug Shortage

I’m always giving out hugs. I’ve found it to be an inexpensive way to help someone feel loved and wanted. It’s just a way to show someone that you care. Sometimes people now stop by my office and just ask for a hug to make their day better.

Sorry I can’t be there with you right now but here is a big virtual hug for you. I can’t remember if the hugs are the Xs or the Os so I’ll cover my bases with XOXOXOXO.

Peace, out, cub scout.
Steve
