I like to save money, who doesn’t? Well of course there are those people that spend for the obvious consumption. Then there are the bleeding edge tech spenders and the compulsive unconscious mall shoppers.
Okay, so not everyone like to save money and in the grand scale of money savers, with 10 being the most frugal and tight and 1 being the least worried about it, I’m probably a 4.
Honestly, I could do more to save money but I’m not going to drive 40 miles to save 10 cents a gallon on gas. For me, time is the one commodity I don’t have enough of.
Even in the money saving world, I hate mail in rebates, seems like most never come back. I’m, not a huge fan of warehouse clubs where you buy more than you need and I’m certainly not the guy capturing used shower water to use to flush the toilets. And I’m certainly not this guy (my nephew) considering a car wash to cut water expenses.

I could really do more to save money and I’d like to be a 7 out of 10. Maybe I should be more ashamed or embarrassed that I’m not doing more?
I do recognize that every penny saved is one less penny to earn and that fact doesn’t escape me. I’d much rather work smarter, than harder.
But in my days I think I’ve seen plenty of examples of people that take it too far. From washing the paper plates to use them again or using old pantyhose for the coffee filter. The other day I saw a news story on a guy that avoids taking his car anywhere that goes up hill so he uses less gas. Using his driving tips he is getting 99 miles a gallon with his Toyota Prius. Admirable. But I’m sure the “Nenpimania” hypermilers in Japan that got 116 MPG in their computer hacked Priuses are laughing at only 99 MPG. “Silly American drivers”, they’re saying. Maybe I should look more into fueling my car with water? Here is another interesting article about converting water into hydrogen to power your car.
Maybe I’m missing some easy money saving tricks or tips. If I am, share them in the comments section. What’s your favorite money saving tips?

2Yes, it really annoys me when press articles suggest such money saving tips as re-using teabags or making your own sandwiches for lunch.
Ok, these will save some money but most people would be much better making some fundamental lifestyle changes - such as finding ways of increasing their incomes and cutting out their more extreme spending addictions.
When I visit the shopping malls here in Northern Ireland people still appear to be spending plenty of money on things they don’t really need and there are also plenty of gas-guzzling cars/SUVs on the roads as well.
I don’t deny anyone the right to buy what they want and drive what they want if they can afford it, but unfortunately a lot of these items have been purchased on credit and quite a few people are now struggling to make the repayments.
My tip is to leave your credit card at home when you go shopping. Take cash or a debit card instead. That way you will resist the temptation of spending money you don’t have and after a while will enjoy the feeling of being able to resist giving in to impulse buying.
